Support Seafarers: Resources
There are many ways you can use your skills to show seafarers who so often feel isolated that there are people in Sydney who care about their latest needs and issues.
Please contact our team if you may be able to help through:
- volunteering at our Centre or visiting seafarers in hospitals
- connecting us with the corporate giving program at your workplace
- running International Day of the Seafarer events in your community
- introducing Sea Sunday celebrations to your Church
- arranging for your creative group to make beanies or arty gifts for seafarers.
Here are some online resources to help you decide the best way to get involved right now:
Caring Creators
Create a beanie, scarf or arty gift such as a handmade card or bookmark that we can include in our gift packs or as a free ‘Welcome’ gift at our Centre. Beanies are especially popular. Seafarers can lose up to 60% of their body heat through their head on an icy cold night at sea, so your knitted items can make a real difference to their comfort and health.
Mail or drop your kind gifts into our Centre and if your timing is right, stay and play a game of pool or table soccer with a visiting seafarer!

25 June of each year is the United Nations International Day of the Seafarer.
Established In 2011, the celebration invites people and organisations from around the world to voice their support and say thanks for the invaluable contribution seafarers make to international trade and the world economy, often at great personal cost to themselves and their families. It is the ideal day for a community fundraiser such as a car boot sale.

Church Advocate
Sea Sunday, the second Sunday in July, is the day which many Christian Churches set aside to remember and pray for seafarers and their families. They give thanks for their lives and work including practical thanks through running fundraisers such as a morning tea.
Please share your event online and use #SeaSunday to let seafarers know that you support them.
