Leave a Legacy – Bequests

Show you care for seafarers by remembering us in your will

We are the oldest and largest seafarer-focused charity in Australia, caring for seafarers for almost 150 years. When people remember us in their wills – it helps us feel secure that we can do so for another 150 years. And there is now a way you can do so without any legal or other fees.

Free Online Will Partner

We have found a new way to bless both seafarers and our supporters – we have teamed up with Gathered Here, Australia’s most trusted online will services platform.

This means you can write a legal, reliable will for free – and update it as often as you like, for free – for life! You can also replace an old off-line will with a free updatable online will, if you inform the custodian of your previous will.

It’s very flexible and easy. You fill in a secure form online and one of the optional questions is if you would like to leave a legacy through a gift to a charity – and if you do decide to do so, we hope you choose us.

You do not even need to be a supporter of Mission to Seafarers to access this free service – anyone is welcome to use our complimentary link below.

“Supporting the Mission was a very appropriate way to honour my dad, Captain Bill Taylor. His long life revolved around the Merchant Navy and seafaring. His life was convincing proof of the motto “Nothing is impossible to the Merchant Service”, which he told us was on the wall of the office of his exacting Captain when he was as young naval cadet.” – Jannion Kauffman.

Captain Taylor was on the Board of the Mission to Seafarers for many years and was made a life member in 1995. He was also an active member of the Company of Master Mariners.

Captain Bill Taylor

Seafaring was tough in 1881 - still is, and always will be.

A gift in a will is a valuable way to continue to show your love for seafarers, even when you can no longer do so personally – and it won’t cost you anything during your lifetime.

Our supporters have helped seafarers feel loved, welcomed and appreciated in many different ways. A gift in a will makes it easier for our seafarer wellbeing services, including our Centre, to stay open for the long term.

Your donation can help us in Sydney to provide:

More services especially for psychological support: A recent study showed that at least 6.5% of seafarer deaths were suicides – 4 times higher than Australia’s national average.
More Ports: more bus transport and ship visits at Port Botany, plus we could add Glebe Island and Kurnell to transport route.

To open the Mission Centre for longer hours. Provide more time, support and space to recharge ready for the next voyage.

How to Give a Bequest

Whether you are using the online service or your own lawyer, all you need to know if you wish to direct a gift to us is:

  • Legal name: The Mission to Seafarers Sydney NSW Welfare Foundation ABN 91451928534
    • BSB 062 074 Account Number 1000 8062
  • Choose if you wish to share a percentage or state a fixed amount.

Cost-effective online legal assistance is also available through Gathered Here to help complete your online will if your circumstances are complicated.

Also please note that Gathered Here does not take a percentage of your gift – their will service is free. The cost is if we want to pay extra to find out who you are so we can thank you. We have chosen not to do this, so if you choose to help us in this generous way, we would greatly appreciate you informing us, so we have the opportunity to say thank you.

If you have any questions on behalf of yourself or a loved one, or would like more information on how the funds will be used, please contact Clayton, our CEO on clayton.strong@missiontoseafarers.org.au or use the form below.
