Objective
The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) aims to show love and care to seafarers in various ways. For both Cruise and Cargo vessel crew, this can take several forms. For Cruise vessels, these tend to be primarily Gifts, Treats or Goods collection. Cruise vessel crew members are also away from home for many months. During this period, they may need items for daily life, want items to make their life more enjoyable, or have special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries or festive holidays like Christmas away from family. Receiving a parcel for any of these reasons is a small blessing that they greatly appreciate.
Background
The Mission to Seafarers offers Cruise and Cargo vessel crew the facility to receive items, recognising the challenges of life at sea and the difficulty of purchasing items. MtS supports the delivery of parcels within the capacity constraints of staff, volunteers and available space.
There is no specific legislation governs this activity, so principles from related acts, such as the Uncollected Goods Act 1995 (NSW) https://legislation.nsw.gov.au/view/whole/html/inforce/current/act-1995-068) are applied to ensure a reliable process.

Receipt and Recording of Incoming Parcels
Volunteers or Staff will record every parcel received on a designated form. Each parcel will be logged under the vessel the Seafarer is travelling on or in the “Other” category if no vessel or seafarer’s name is provided.
Storage of Parcels
Parcels will be stored alphabetically by the first name on the parcel to minimise handling and improve management efficiency. This process will be optimised as additional space becomes available.
Recording of Outgoing Parcels:
Parcel Collection at the Mission
Volunteers and/or Staff will oversee the collection process to ensure that every parcel is properly documented. The individual collecting the parcel (the “collector”) (does not necessarily have to be the intended recipient) is required to provide the following information as per the form:
- Date of collection
- Crew ID number
- Mobile Phone number
In the instance where the collector is not the parcel addressee, in order to collect the parcel, he/she must provide to MtS staff a Letter of Authority from the parcel addressee authorising him/her to collect the parcel.
Should there be any follow up needed, the phone number provided by the collector will be used to contact the collector.
